I trust everyone had an incredible Memorial Holiday weekend. Vivian and I had a great time at the AHDRA races in Commerce on Saturday and Sunday. Somehow after walking all over the place up there this weekend I ended up on crutches. Seems I may have re-injured an old break in the ball of my left foot. Guess the bones get even more brittle at 50.Just went to a 24-hr clinic on Monday (3-1/2 hrs) so I have to wait until they have the x-rays read before I know for sure. Got some shots of real heavy duty pain meds though.
    Congratulations to Eddie Lee and the entire Southwinds Race Team. They crushed the Pro Stock field with an emotional victory on Sunday. Long time friend and sponsor Rick Phillips passed away suddenly at the end of 2008. This win on their home track was for Big Rick. We couldn't be more thrilled for the team to get this huge victory at this time. Eddie and some of the crew and sponsors will join us on Thursday night to celebrate and sign autographs at the Taco Mac Bike Night in Douglasville. Congratulations again!!! We really love you guys. Also, on Thursday night another Mableton, GA boy, JB Walker and The Cheap Whiskey Band will be performing at Taco Mac. And I just found out that "Nobody" and Redneck Engineering will also be coming by on Thursday night with some of their incredible creations. More details below in bike night info.
    I hope you all got to spend some time on Monday recognizing the men and women that died for our country. Steve (Psycho Dad) Naylor from our staff attended what I understand was an incredible ride. The Ride for America went from Monroe,GA to the Court House in Madison for the ceremony. I spoke to organizers, Gary Lemond and Stan Mauldin on Tuesday to congratulate them on a great 10th Anniversary event. There were 700 motorcycles signed up and the whole day went incredibly smooth and safe. Great job guys and thank you to all that attended.
    This week and the upcoming weekend have a lot going on as usual. The June magazine is hitting the streets today and should be in all locations by the weekend. I do want to mention one of the rides that I am really excited about. The biggest ride to hit Alabama this year is coming this weekend. The Alabama State Trooper Memorial Ride leaves starting points all over the State and ends at Garrett Coliseum for a concert event with Blackfoot and Molly Hatchet. Details are below. If you've got the time to spend for an incredible event come check this one out. Redneck Engineering and Don Gray Customs will both be displaying at the Coliseum along with several other vendors and builders. Following the Memorial Ceremony, GRIP is coming over from Atlanta to play outside before the main concert. Warhorse Band will also be rocking the venue. Two years ago the event drew 3,000 people. This year the coliseum seats nearly 8,000. Let's pack it and really support the AL Troopers Association and all they do for the families of fallen troopers.
    On Sunday Vivian and I will drive back from Montgomery for the ABATE D4W Christmas in June event at Fat Cats in Austell, GA. Bike Show, Battle of Bands & Membership Drive. From there we're off to Birdies in Hiram (4-8pm) to close out a busy weekend. Come on out and join us.
    Whatever you do, ride safe. Hope to see you this week.

    Great news!!! We did it, no better yet, YOU DID IT!!! Our Call to Action on Tuesday was unreal. The phones rang at the Capitol and got the attention of Lt Governor Casey Cagle, Senators and Representatives. The author of House Bill 950, Alan Powell heard about the attempts to stifle the bill and went into action. I'm sure the Lt Gov is still pulling teeth out of his rear. As a result, on Thursday morning the bill that they were attempting to lump in with HB950 was killed and ours was quickly moved onto the calendar. At 5:21PM the Senate version SB437 passed in the House with only one negative vote and then at 5:29PM HB950 passed unanimously in the Senate. Section 6 of the bills, which is the original portion of the bill that affects registration of custom, kit and/or assembled motorcycles will go into affect as soon as it is signed by the Governor. Finally, we'll get to pull all of these bikes out of mothballs and put them where they belong, on the street.
    In our six years with FULL THROTTLE this is the first time that all motorcyclists came together to accomplish a common goal. Congratulations and thank you to all that took part in this effort. AND SPECIAL THANKS goes to Rep Alan Powell and Sen Jeff Mullis. These two really had to go the extra mile this week to get these bills on the calendar.
ALSO, everyone owes ABATE of GA a huge thank you as well as your support. Yankee Ed Andross and Linda Allen did a great job tracking these bills and then keeping us posted so we could put out the call to action. Come to the swap meet this Sunday (rain or shine) and thank them in person. Better yet, if you are not a member, come JOIN.
    There are a lot of events scheduled this week across the Southland. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Wherever you go or whatever you do, do it safely. We are off to very rough and deadly start to 2008. Our prayers go out to the family and friends of Greg Yarborough of Brunswick, GA who was killed a couple of weeks ago.
    You can do more to help yourself in most situations and the Forsyth Sheriff's Dept along with the Governor's Office of Hwy Safety will be at Bikers Dream on Saturday to give you a few pointers and to perform safety inspections of your ride. Also Saturday, Danny Lowry will be at Eastern Shores H-D, FatDog will be at Mt Cheaha, Sassy will be at the St Jude's Ride in Athens, TN, Greg "MachineGun" Mechigian and Rhonda will be at Bumpus H-D. Vickie will be down at the beach in Panama City and hopefully Rooster will be well enough he can attend. Vivian and I will be at Stone Mt H-D for Mr Charlie's 10th Annual Bike Show and Party.
   Then on Sunday Vivian and I will definitely be at the ABATE swap meet. We hope to see you this weekend.

FULL THROTTLE, ABATE & THE ENTIRE MOTORCYCLE COMMUNITY NEED YOUR HELP TODAY!!!!

    We have been informed that Lt Governor Casey Cagle is holding up HB-950 in the Senate Rules Committee so that it cannot go to the floor for a vote. WE ONLY HAVE TWO DAYS SO YOU MUST CALL TODAY!!! The Senate version is SB-437.

Attached are the Senate Rules Committee Members and all Senators. Call them along with Casey Cagle's office and your Senator's office. Office of the Lieutenant Governor- TEL: (404) 656-5030, FAX: (404) 656-6739

    I do not know what or why this is being held up. It appears that language has been added concerning license plates and fees as it relates to the weights of commercial vehicles. PLEASE CALL, TELL THEM: I support HB-950 and SB-437 as it relates to the titling of assembled, kit and customs cars and bikes. It has to pass or hundreds of thousands of dollars of vehicles that are already built will not be registered and the owners will not be allowed to drive or ride them. Please pass this bill. Do not hold it up if the language that has been added about tag fees is the concern.

The link for the latest action or should I say inaction- http://www.legis.ga.gov/legis/2007_08/sum/hb950.htm

Full Throttle News

    A little political activism mixed with a light dose of political disobedience can go a long way. Thank you all that participated in the Cruise-ade to the Capitol. We appreciate all your help in the meetings, committees, planning and petitions. I told the efforts of a lot of people to get where we are today. The work is not over; I just got another call from someone that moved into the State. They were issued a title only to have it revoked. The letter they received was written 2/13 after we thought the State was backing off on existing titles.
    Currently though HB950 has passed unanimously through the House. It has to go through the Senate but they are in recess until 2/25. It should pass without opposition but still has to go through the process. Please keep contacting us and ABATE with any new problems.

    The weekend looks pretty decent with low 60's temperatures but clear skies. It should make for some pretty good riding.
For starters the Bike Show in Macon runs all weekend long. You may need to contact them ASAP in order to enter a bike. This is a great show in its 16th year.
On Sunday there is a GA ABATE swap meet on Jonesboro Rd just inside I-285. They need members in order to keep fighting for your rights, so please go Sunday, join and participate in the 50/50. We have to get the dollars up so we can keep up the fight.
    Also, we have been asked about the ABATE bylaws, how to run for office and other logistics questions about ABATE. Sunday would be a great time to get your questions answered. I asked at our last meeting about running for office. NOT FOR ME (let me make sure that's clear), but for others that have inquired. To run for office you must submit an application at a minimum of 60 days in advance. The State elections are Sept 5-7, 2008 with the actual vote taking place on the 7th in Macon, GA. If interested make sure to get your application in by the end of June.

    Vivian and I will be out of town this weekend but many of out the FT crew will be out and about. Be sure to say "Hello" when you see them. All of us enjoy meeting you when we are at events.

Full throttle News

   It was a great fun time at the Great American Motorcycle Show in Norcross, GA this past weekend. Our thanks to all that came out to support the show and that came out to support Full Throttle Magazine. I also want to thank the parents that took the time to bring your kids for the Full Throttle Best Dressed Biker Kids Contest. The kids looked great and really had a good time participating. It was also amazing how many people came by the booth just to say "Hello" and that mentioned the Alaska to Key West articles. On behalf of the Iron Torch Riders, we are amazed at the response we receive about the ride and the new awareness we have created for Special Olympics.

    The fun of the past weekend is behind us and now we have some serious business to take care of with the Cruise-ade to GA State Capitol, tomorrow, Tuesday Feb 12th. As you are aware the State has revoked existing titles and refused to inspect and issue titles for newly built kit, custom bikes and automobiles. House Bill 950 has been revised but still has to pass through Committee. the House and the Senate. We need you all to join us tomorrow to pull your Representatives out of session and tell them the motorcycle, hot rod and custom auto industry is united in protecting our freedom to build and drive/ride the type of vehicle that we choose.
     There are four starting locations or you can go straight to the Capitol.
At 10am we will begin assembling at Atlanta Harley-Davidson on the west side of Atlanta, to the south in Newnan at Great South Harley-Davidson, on the east side at Granite Mt Harley-Davidson and from the north at Earl Smalls Harley-Davidson. Don't think this is a Harley ride because of the starting locales; these folks have just generously allowed us to us their locations to show their support of this cause. EVERYONE IS INVITED REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU RIDE!
    ALL RIDES WILL DEPART AT 11AM SHARP. Activities at the capitol are scheduled for NOON. Washington St will be closed for us to park and we will use the outside staircase for our press conference and speeches. We will show you at each starting locale how to go about getting your Representative out of Session and we will go over it again at the Capitol. When you get a chance to speak with them tell them that you support HB 950 and that you would appreciate their vote and support of it as well. Take the opportunity to tell them that this is not the only issue that you are concerned with. Specifically for the motorcycle community we have the red light sensor bill that will allow you to safely proceed through a red light that has not been activated by the sensors. Also, we want tougher penalties for right-of-way violators that cause an accident involving motorcycles.
     For the Car Enthusiasts that are joining us the OTHER bill that affects you as well is the ability to stack uninsured motorists insurance.
I cannot stress enough how important it is for this community to turn out in big numbers. RAIN OR SHINE we will ride to the Capitol to support our freedom.

House Bill 950 Update

Subject: FULL THROTTLE_ HOUSE BILL 950 UPDATE:

Happy Super Tuesday! With decent weather forecast for today I hope everyone is planning to get out and vote. We have talked about politics a lot over the last few weeks with the issues affecting motorcyclists in GA. Who we put in office will be developing policy for the next few years so it is really important to exercise your right to vote.

    On top of all the House Bill 950 issues Full Throttle has been involved with, we have also been very involved contacting our Federal Senators and Congressman over the Economic Stimulus package. I can't believe they want to increase the deficit to give away money that will be spent mostly on foreign products. Credit card debt is at an all time high and they are asking people to just go spend the money for the hell of it instead of paying down there current debt. Unbelievable. We've typically kept the magazine out of politics but these days we just had to wade into the water. The issues are too great and Washington just seems to have forgotten about the Constitution. With that said, on the National scale we are endorsing Mike Huckabee for the Presidential race.

BACK TO THE LOCAL ISSUES AT HAND! TONIGHT AT FAT CATS AT 7:30. WE NEED EVERYONE THAT CAN POSSIBLY ATTEND TO BE THERE FOR LETTER WRITING AND FINAL PLANNING FOR THE RIDE TO THE CAPITOL. Tonight, Tuesday Fat Cats, 2523 Veterans Memorial, Austell, GA at 7:30PM.

Below are our concerns as drafted by ABATE Asst Legislative Dir Linda Allen. Progress is being made on getting an acceptable bill but we cannot back off. We have to keep doing the petition, the letters, the calls and the Ride. We have great momentum and need to ride that all the way to the Capitol on Feb 12th for the Cruise-Aid to the Capitol.

We will get out an email of all ride details following the meeting tonight and an email about this weekends Great American Motorcycle Show.

House Bill 950

House Bill 950 is Legislation that attempts to address recent concerns over EPA interpretations and tag and title issues to motorcyclists in Georgia. The INTENT of the Legislation according to both Legal Council and the Bills Sponsor is to help motorcyclists register and tag their bikes by classifying and differencing between 'assembled' and 'kit Bikes' and unconventional motorcycles.

Under the Bill 'assembled and 'kit' bikes WILL be able to be registered in Georgia if the bikes meet the states definition of Assembled or kit.

Under the Bill 'Unconventional' motorcycles will NOT be registered UNLESS they can pass an inspection by the state costing $260.

House Bill 950 as currently written causes considerable confusion and needs further clarification. ABATE supports an amendment to the Bill that will address our concerns to include:

<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Further clarification of 'kit' and 'assembled motorcycles'

<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Means or steps to register 'Unconventional motorcycle' either through a grandfathering clause or clearly stated steps to rectify

<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Spelled out exemptions to include show bikes and 1 time Kit bikes in accordance with Federal exemptions

<!--[if !supportLists]-->·         <!--[endif]-->Spelled out plan of implementation

<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Assurances that the inspections will be accessible and timely

<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Assurances that DMV and Dept. of Revenue Staff will be fully informed and trained

ABATE will pursue acceptable amendment language to be attached to HB 950 and has plans to meet with DMV, Department of Revenue Staff and others to address our concerns.

HB 950 is currently in the Motor Vehicle Committee and will be subjected to hearings open to the public.

Stay tuned for information on committee hearing dates and times and updates on amendment language.

Oklahoma Veterans Day Bike Run

This is the second year for me to attend the Veterans Day Bike Run in Oklahoma City. I think it is an AWESOME event to show our veterans, (past, present and future)the respect and support we should. <br />
<br />
This year 613 bikes attended. It was an wonderful showing. The only draw back I saw this year was the absence of riding past the VA hospital which has been a large part of the run in the past. The riders want to let those at the hospital know they are not forgotten. I was told the reason for the absence this year was the complaints of the neighboring residential district. This is a shame that the people who live the closest to the hospital and know what that hospital represents should be able to deny the paitents the enjoyment of a small tribute in thier honor. It is because of the men and women in that hospital that they have the right to complain about anything. This kind of behavior by our citizens upsets me. I am a veteran as well as my husband and most of my friends. <br />
<br />
Dispite the absence of that part of the ride, it was a beautiful day and the weather was very nice for a ride for November. We will be attending this ride again in the future and encourage any veteran who happens to be in the area next year to join in. <br />
<br />
