Full Throttle News
This time of year it is hard to be at work. The weather is just too nice to be sitting here instead of being out riding. This past weekend was incredible and it showed with the attendance at Faunsdale, Milledgeville, Knighthawk, and the Hotlanta Dyno Drags. Cartersville H-D maintained the crown by taking the majority of the classes. All the watering holes we visited, like Tom's Place and Mulligans, had good crowds hanging out enjoying the fall weather. On Sunday we tipped our hats to the AHDRA Southwinds Race Team at Reids Deli in Mableton, GA with a bike show and party. Eddie Lee and the team have a shot to take the championship this coming weekend in Rockingham. Good Luck!!! Things are still rocking at Cocktail Cove on Tuesday nights. We are back at The Alley in Woodstock on Wednesday nights and Tom's Place on Thursdays. This week on Tuesday at Jekyll and Hyde's in Newnan and on Wednesday at Fat Cats in Austell there is a special concert event with David Allan Coe and JB Walker and the Cheap Whiskey Band. These will be great warm up events for those heading to Biketoberfest and if you aren't going a chance to see the main acts from the World Famous Iron Horse Saloon. Also note, if you are going to Daytona. read the attached press release that mentions a couple of FL law changes that you should be aware of. There's plenty of action across the Southlands' this weekend. In Anniston, AL there is the EMS USO Care Package Ride. In Centre, AL Biker Shack 411 is having a swap meet. Ritchie TN Honda has their open house in Athens, TN with TWO ATV's to be given away. Killer Creek H-D has their Big Tent Sidewalk Sale and Renegade Classic's in Richmond Hills, GA is celebrating their first anniversary. Speaking of Anniversary's; we have a few more details to share with you about Southland's Full Throttle Magazine's 7th ANNIVERSARY PARTY!!! We are proud to announce that the location will again be at Fat Cats in Austell, GA. After checking a couple of other venues, it is their 14,000 sq ft club and always biker friendly attitude that makes Fat Cats the best location for a party of this size. Kick-off Party is Saturday night Dec 6th and the main event is Sunday Dec 7th. As always we have THOUSANDS of dollars in giveaways, our coveted limited edition t-shirts and this year a shot to win a H-D 105th Anniversary Super Glide from Lawbike.com. Sponsors already on board are Steve Murrin "The Biker Lawyers", Killer Creek H-D, XTreme Rider, Las Margaritas, The Bikers Edge, Lawbike.com and Harley-Davidson of Atlanta. Check out these events and even more in our online Cruisin' Calendar listing. Calendar BTW, if you have considered advertising your business or event with Southlands Full Throttle Magazine there is no better time than right now to get on board. Established in 1993 with a goal of attracting visitors to the Daytona Beach area during the fall value season, Biketoberfest® has quickly grown into one of America’s most recognized motorcycle festivals. This year the popular autumn festival – which features motorcycle events throughout the region, including popular street festivals, charity rides, concerts, expos and other motorcycle-related activities -- celebrates its “Sweet 16.” Below are some news-worthy concepts in covering the October 16-19, 2008 event: Projected Economic Impact With an annual attendance of approximately 125,000-175,000, Biketoberfest® 2008 will pump an estimated $214 million of economic impact into Volusia County. The once local event now has countywide and regional impact. Value Pricing Value-seeking visitors will find budget-friendly pricing during Biketoberfest®. With more than 12,000 rooms in the Daytona Beach area – starting at $99, and many with no minimums – there is truly something for everyone's budget and style. The CVB’s official website, Biketoberfest.org, offers a convenient way to book. It posts current hotel availability lists to save guests from calling around, and it contains live links to available hotels’ booking engines, making for true one-stop service. Biketoberfest® visitors will find plenty of great, low-cost entertainment this year. Most biker establishments have no cover charge, and most area attractions, parks and museums are available at a minimal charge. New Laws in Effect A new Florida law (CS/HB 137) that took effect October 1 requires motorcycles and mopeds to keep both wheels on the ground at all times, requires that license plates be mounted horizontally, and provides additional penalties and fines for certain offenses. For more information visit www.myfloridahouse.gov. Safety Campaign With tens of thousands of bikers expected to roar into town for Biketoberfest® this month, the local Biketoberfest® Safety Task Force is launching a public information campaign to make the roads safer for motorcyclists and locals alike. The messages will be “Look twice, save a life” and “None for the road.” Thirty-four billboards with the slogans already have been placed throughout Volusia County. Local firefighters and police officers will place 2,000 temporary signs along roadways before the bikers arrive. For more information contact Pat Kuehn, Volusia County Community Information, (386) 748-3989 or pkuehn@co.volusia.fl.us Free Bike Parking Three of the area’s biggest event venues -- Main Street, Bruce Rossmeyer's Destination Daytona, and Daytona International Speedway -- are offering free Biketoberfest(R) parking this year. In addition, the Speedway is offering free infield admission during its Fall Cycle Scene motorcycle races. Also at the Speedway, the official attraction of NASCAR, The Daytona 500 Experience, will go by the name of D5X as it celebrates with food, beverages, daily entertainment and free admission Oct. 17-18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information on Biketoberfest®, visit www.biketoberfest.org or call the Biketoberfest® hotline at 1-866-296-8970.
